    As a part of the Trump administration’s dedication to strengthening American power independence and financial safety, the Bureau of Land Administration will maintain a aggressive sealed-bid coal lease sale for federal coal reserves on the Freedom Mine in Mercer County, North Dakota, on 3 September 2025. 

    The sale advances Government Order 14241, “Reinvigorating America’s Lovely Clear Coal Business,” and is authorised underneath the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920, as amended.

    “This lease sale displays the Trump administration’s dedication to increasing home power manufacturing and guaranteeing a steady provide of reasonably priced, dependable energy,” mentioned Performing BLM Director Invoice Groffy. “The proposed lease will assist preserve operations at one of many nation’s most efficient lignite coal mines, supporting native jobs and reinforcing America’s power safety.”

    The Coteau Properties Firm utilized to lease roughly 1,070 acres containing an estimated 18.3 million t of recoverable federal coal. If authorized, the lease would permit continued operations on the Freedom Mine till 2045, supporting American power independence, preserving essential power infrastructure, and strengthening the regional financial system.

    To evaluate potential impacts of the lease and associated mining plans, the BLM and the Workplace of Floor Mining Reclamation and Enforcement ready a draft environmental evaluation and hosted a public remark interval from 1 April – 2 Could 2025, together with a public assembly on 24 April.
